Fort Bull is an earthen Civil War fortification located in St. Andrews Parish, near the intersection of the Charleston and Savannah railroad tracks and Highway 61. The fort was constructed in 1863, and was situated near two colonial era settlements on the south side of the Ashley River. It served to protect the intersection of two roads, and later, the railroad. A 1919 map depicts the fort as a four-sided earthen structure with bastioned corners, but after the site was purchased by the Charleston Mining and Manufacturing Company, it was neglected until the late 20th century. Since a large portion was destroyed by railroad tracks and suburban development, the present-day site shows only two corners of the fort.
